Recently Philip Dazeley, who has many years of experience as a lay preacher, spent the week in college as part of Westminster’s In the Company of scheme. He had the opportunity to be part of the college community, eating and worshiping with staff and students, as well as having dedicated time with academic staff to focus his study on particular areas of interest. During the week he also spent time exploring Cambridge city centre.
Below are some of Philip’s reflections on his stay. If you’d like to set up your own unique ‘In the Company Of…’ experience, please contact Syd or Claudia in the Tutorial Office on 01223 33 06 49 or on email@example.com.
On my arrival I was made very welcome by the girls in reception who ensured that I had everything I needed.
My initial meeting with Neil was so incredible that I am still amazed….the books (he) put on the table before we talked were so right.
The more I got used to the way of life in the College so I was conscious of the ideas & support by students, the prayer times, & all the conversations seemed to have a meaning.
My conversation with Yak-Hee on the Wednesday afternoon was equally helpful, in a different way…
Here too she had already got one or two books out which proved to the right ones for my circumstances.
Meeting Janet was very helpful, again in a different way, as we talked about the Jewish people and what the writers of the Gospels said by referring back to the Old Testament.
The days just flew by especially when I was in the Library which proved to be such a tranquil place yet empowered by all the writers & the books it contained.
My last conversation with Neil & then with Sam encouraged me… by way of on going support & follow up. I came away with an awareness that for me the door has just opened.
If you are interested in visiting Westminster for the day, or staying for a period of study, reading, prayer or quiet time, why not come as part of the In the Company of scheme. We look forward to welcoming you. Financial support may be available from the Cheshunt Education Fund.
