Westminster Life
Prayer and spirituality

The Chapel is the heart of Westminster. There is a daily pattern of prayer, and a simple office is said in the middle of the day, either in the college or wherever people are. The Chapel is presently home to ‘Root’, a stunning sculpture, part of the ‘Touching the divine’ exhibition. During ‘term’, students, teachers, those studying or visiting, also gather each morning at 8.30am for a service shaped by the worship leader of the day. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated regularly and services of worship mark the rhythm and special events of the Westminster year.
Conference and groups are encouraged to use the Chapel for their own worship or to adapt meeting rooms, the grounds and our bigger spaces for their own worship. As part of the Cambridge Theological Federation, we share in a variety of ecumenical services and services in other traditions. Amongst many particular days, we mark Holocaust Memorial day together, share an early morning service for Ash Wednesday and an outdoor celebration for Ascension Day. For many of the Westminster community, sung services at Kings or St John’s are a part of their spiritual journey. Quiet days and retreats at Clare Priory are a staple of life here for staff and students alike. Many classes typically begin with a prayer and all of our learning is offered to God. Work and worship, as is typical of the Reformed way, are one.
