Join us in Cambridge for an immersive academic intensive focused on the Latin of the Vulgate — the Bible that shaped Western Christianity for more than a thousand years. This course offers a structured introduction to Latin through biblical texts, helping you develop reading fluency and theological insight directly from Jerome’s influential translation.

Ideal for BA-level students and beyond — especially those in theology, church history, or classical studies — this course requires no prior Latin knowledge.

• Latin Alphabet & Pronunciation – Familiarise yourself with ecclesiastical Latin

• Core Grammar – Learn Latin nouns, verbs, and syntax through biblical examples

• Vulgate Vocabulary – Master essential biblical terms and expressions

• Textual Engagement – Translate and interpret selected Vulgate passages including Genesis 1-4

Meet Your Tutor

Dr Marieke Dhont
Dr Dhont is a Teaching Associate for the Foundation Year and an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. She holds a joint PhD in Religious Studies and Theology from KU Leuven and UC Louvain.

Her work focuses on the transmission of sacred texts and biblical languages, and she brings a wealth of academic and pedagogical experience in Hebrew, Latin, and related subjects.
