Open Cambridge

Westminster College opens its doors for Open Cambridge

Westminster College welcomes you to join us as we participate in 2023’s Open Cambridge event

17th September 10:00 – 16:00

~

Westminster College was first founded in London in 1844 to train students for ministry in the Presbyterian Church in England. In 1899, the College moved to Cambridge, to this beautiful Arts & Crafts building designed by architect Henry Hare. In 1967, Westminster united with Cheshunt College – originally founded in 1768 in Trevecca, Wales, by the Countess of Huntingdon – which was shortly followed by the union in 1972 of the Presbyterian Church of England and the Congregational Union of England and Wales which formed the United Reformed Church. Our students still train for ministry, and Westminster is a resource centre for learning for the wider URC.

On the 17th of September, the College will be open to all visitors, who are welcome to book a place on one of our free guided tours, or to just walk through the College at their leisure – explore the library, walk through the stunning chapel, visit the Assembly Room, the Gibson Room, the Dining Hall and visit the College’s serene grounds. We will be providing leaflets filled with information about the rooms and there will be plenty of members of staff dotted around to ask any questions you may have. We will also have some children’s guides with fun things to see and know about the College, so we hope this will be a fun experience for all of the family.

Spaces on the tours are now full, but you are welcome to self-tour the campus at any time during our open hours with the information leaflets we supply. There will be staff present to answer any questions you may have as best they can.

We will be offering refreshments in the Dining Hall which you are welcome to enjoy on the lawn if the weather allows. We will be selling a selection of tea, coffee, cakes and ploughman’s lunches.

Whether you are a resident of Cambridge or visiting the city for the first time, Open Cambridge at Westminster College promises an enriching experience for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
