Explore the Language of Jerome’s Bible

Join us in Cambridge for an intensive academic intensive focused on the Latin of the Vulgate — the 4th century Bible that shaped Western Christianity for more than a thousand years. This course offers a structured introduction to Latin through biblical texts, helping you develop reading fluency and theological insight directly from Jerome’s influential translation.

Designed for students with at least one year of Latin.

Meet Your Tutor

Dr Marieke Dhont
Dr Dhont is a Teaching Associate for the Foundation Year and an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. She holds a joint PhD in Religious Studies and Theology from KU Leuven and UC Louvain.

Her work focuses on the transmission of sacred texts and biblical languages, and she brings a wealth of academic and pedagogical experience in Hebrew, Latin, and related subjects.

Arrivals: Monday, January 12 (between 11:00am–2:00pm)
Departures: Thursday, January 15 (after lunch)

Monday, January 12:

  • 2:00pm–3:00pm: Session 1
  • 3.30pm–4.30pm:​ Session 2

Tuesday, January 13 & Wednesday, January 14:

  • 9:30am–11:00am: Session 3
  • 11:00am–11:30am: Coffee Break
  • 11:30am–13:00pm: Session 4
  • 13:00pm–14:00pm: Lunch
  • 14:00pm–15:00pm: Session 5

Thursday, January 15:

  • 9:30am–10:30am: Session 5
  • 11:00am–11:30am: Coffee Break
  • 11:30am–12:30pm: Session 6
  • 13:00pm–14:00pm: Lunch

Total: 12 hours of instruction.
